I received my Master of Arts degree in Marriage and Family Counseling from Richmont Graduate University in 2007. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the state of Georgia. I work with adult men and women, adolescents/teenagers (14 to 19), and elder adults (65+). I currently lead a weekly women's group addressing issues such as addiction, eating disorders and trauma.
Following graduation, I worked as a case manager on a multidisciplinary team at Skyland Trail, which is a nonprofit mental health treatment organization based in Atlanta from 2008 until 2010. Skyland Trail is a unique psychiatric residential and day treatment program offering a holistic program of evidence-based psychiatric treatment, integrated medical care, research and education to adults with mental illness. Skyland Trail specializes in treating adults with Bipolar Disorder, Schizophrenia, Depression, and Dual Diagnosis. While there, I had the opportunity to work with individuals, lead groups, and guide families in the treatment process.
Next, I went to work at Ridgeview Institute’s Women’s Center beginning in June of 2010. While at Ridgeview, I managed patient caseloads presenting with eating disorders, addiction, dual diagnosis, psychiatric and trauma issues. As a therapist, I conducted individual, family, and couples therapy as well as lead and co-lead many different groups. I engaged daily with an interdisciplinary treatment team comprised of psychiatrists, nurses, dietitians, and therapists.
I thoroughly enjoyed my time and team at Ridgeview, but decided to launch my own private practice in 2012 and Lavinia Myers, LLC was formed. While I was building my practice from 2012 - 2014, I worked as a contract therapist leading groups at Odyssey Family Counseling and Renfrew Center of Georgia.
I take an eclectic approach to therapy with my clients. I draw on the following 6 different perspectives and theories as my treatment orientation: Cognitive Behavioral (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral (DBT), Family Systems, Person-Centered, Narrative, and Psychodynamic Therapy.
My Specialties include the treatment of:
